Release tracklist

Few words

South Korean electronic musician Paul Yoon (Paul Bazooka), now known as Deepyoon, has recently rebranded himself and is releasing his debut driving techno EP, “Uncanniness”, on Plazma Records. The EP was inspired by the murderous and grotesque appearance of a large hospital that has been abandoned for over 40 years in the town where Deepyoon lives.

The ambient sound Deepyoon designed is dark and spatial, with ever-changing hypnotic patterned arpeggios that repeat over and over again. The bizarre, metaphysical bass synths are combined with powerful, dark beats to create a balance of seriousness and playfulness. The dissonance and sharp hi-hats of the lead synths in the tracks “Uncanniness” and “Abandoned place” match the horrifying and hopeless visuals of the hospital building.

In addition to “Cryptid” track, which imagines unknown creatures, the track “Blood Moon” captures the turbulent feeling of the red moon that Deepyoon experienced in 2022. The lead sound of “Blood moon” is actually the sound of metal plates rubbing together and was intentionally designed to be mistaken for a human voice. Finally, Maxerface‘s remix reinterprets the title track, adding gritty, restless machine-like rhythms and an elevated tone.
